Herbal powder shampoo can be used with water only, but sometimes you can feel that your hair needs a deeper treatment. I wanted to give you some ideas about how to use herbal shampoo with other natural and nourishing ingredients.
Personally, I don't use any liquid shampoo anymore, so when I feel that my hair needs a deep treatment with oil, I only apply a small quantity, leave it overnight and the next morning I just wash my hair with herbal shampoo.
When I'm too busy for a deep treatment, but I still feel that my hair is a bit dry I put a bit of aloe vera or vegetable glycerine or essential oil (grapefruit or ylang-ylang) into my herbal shampoo and I use it as usual.
How to create the hair mask:
Put the shampoo powder into a bowl with a bit of hot water.
Mix to obtain a homogeneous consistency.
Now you can add other ingredients such as
- Natural oil & butter: Olive, Castor, Coconut, Shea, hemp...
- Aloe vera
- Natural vegetable glycerine
- Essential oil (small quantity, please refer to the indication of essential oil providers)
Apply on the scalp by massaging gently then apply the rest of the paste on the lengths
Leave it for 30 min to 1h30 (or more if you can).
Some people keep it overnight but don’t forget to protect your pillow.
If you use oil and butter you might have to use a natural liquid shampoo to get rid of the excess oil.
Practical advice: A simple way for removing the oil gently, is to put your shampoo without water first, massage gently and put on a bit of water, massage again and then you can wash it off. This method allows you to keep more of the oil’s beneficial properties by not having to wash your hair multiple times.
Always do a test patch before applying.
